The
Carousel Psyche
1973
48” X 36”
oil on canvas |
A
surreal cross section of a young child’s psyche. The
top and bottom areas remain blank. The top yellow area, a
pterodactyl’s beak, represents the consciousness. Its
eye reflects a Colorado sunset. In the right area of the lower
lid, there is a somewhat formless outline depicting the infant
undergoing formation as well as the very old man in deformation.
A blue stream like area just below affords an interchange
between the pale violet upper consciousness area and the subconscious.
The many scarlet forms on the grandmother’s blue dress
(right of center) represent the subconscious with its many
recorded items; the violet ones are those fading away. The
creative aspect is represented by the plump Mother Goose figure.
Etc., etc.
